About Rocío
Let’s go ahead and get it out of the way – my name is inevitably the first thing people stumble over when they meet me. How do you pronounce it? What’s it mean? Where are you from?
No, it’s not pronounced how it’s spelled… you roll the ‘r’ and say the ‘c’ like it’s a ‘th.’ It’s like saying the name Theo with a ‘roh’ in front…Roh-theo. Yes, it’s pronounced differently in central and South America. For me, it’s pronounced with a ‘th’ because my mother hails from Spain.
I’m Spanish-American by blood, though I grew up in Brasil, immersed and in love with a culture that was different from that of either of my parents. I am what academics call a third-culture kid.
I start here because it shares a glimpse into the personal experience from which my professional self evolved. Growing up abroad, I became fluent in interpersonal and intercultural communications. I learned that any meaningful and lasting relationship has to be jointly built on mutual respect and trust. This goes for friends, colleagues, and my organization's stakeholders.
With this fluency, I’m able to successfully tackle a variety of tasks, including managing multi-faceted digital projects and campaigns, producing compelling content, and executing effective strategies that move the needle for the organization and provide value for our constituents.
